Checklist before installing any regulation alert app:
1. Jurisdiction coverage. Does it track your states and countries, or just federal US law? State-level granularity is the hard part. 2. Update speed. A law signed in May and alerted in September is a history app. 3. Primary sources. Does it cite statute text and bill numbers, or summarize summaries? You want the former. 4. Alert granularity. "AI law changed" is useless. "California AB 2655 enforcement began" is actionable. 5. False positive rate. Apps that alert on every introduced bill (most die in committee) train you to ignore them. 6. Price honesty. Free with ads, per-check, or subscription should be stated upfront, not discovered at checkout.
